bq40z60EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z60

Here are a few comments regarding the 595-BQ40Z60EVM-578 battery charger EVM.

The TI software for this board asks you to select the IC from a drop down menu. You select the BQ40Z60 and it says that this part is not supported. Why offer it then? The part is new , not obsolete so maybe they have not yet supported it yet.

However, we can have a go at driving it ourselves through the SMB bus.

It will not power up. I have tried all jumper combinations. It will not consume any current. The data sheet for the EVM says :- Press the WAKE UP pushbutton switch to temporarily connect BAT+ to VAC. This applies voltage to the ACP pin on the bq40z60 to power up the regulators and start the initialization sequence.

This is not true and it does not happen. The switch has a 5k1 resistor in series with it. It connects a battery +ve to a power supply +ve via 5k1. Neither voltage will move. Also, the ACP pin is always connected to VAC via a 10k resistor. Pressing the WAKE UP switch generates no event at this pin. It is always set to the potential of VAC.

Any tips would be welcome.
