lmz35003 power module current sink capacity

Hi,

I'm planning to use the power module lmz35003 for my project . My question concerning the lmz35003 is : is it able to sink current ? for example if I connect a 12V input source to the lmz35003, and on the output of the lmz35003 I have 6 V, then if I connect a load (resistor + LED for example) between the 12 V and  6V output of the lmz35003, will it sink current ?.Thanks in advance.

    Hi Bao,
    Theoretically, yes, LMZ35003 like all the voltage regulated Buck can be converted into a curent regulated one by feedbacking the output current information (the voltage across th sensing resistor in series of LED). However, please note that power loss from the sensing resistor would be significant due to the high internal voltage referece. Moreover, the compensations maybe be needed to be adjuested too.

    thank you, I already found the answer, in fact, there are 2 types of Buck regulator: synchronous (double MOSFET switch: 1 high side + 1 low side) and non-synchronous (single MOSFET switch + 1 free wheel diode), only the synchronous type (like the tps54620, having it tested with my tps54620evm board) can sink current thanks to the low side MOSFET, in this case the LMZ35003 is a non-synchronous type (datasheet P.21) so it cannot sink current in my example.
