What causes the low frequency noise in the TPS54620 reference design?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54620

I noticed semi random spikes in the output of the TPS54620 output in the bench mark simulation and would like to understand where it come from.  I have attached the generated wave forms with the second one zoomed in to a single event.  The only changes I have made to the schematic are to set Vout to 8.15 volts and the load current resistor for 5 amps.

  • Hello Mike,

Is the Phase signal TP5 on the schematic? If it is, it may be that you have your input voltage too low and every few ms the controller shuts off. This is just an off the cuff guess. The output voltage waveform looks a lot like what happens when the converter is going through a high-load to no-load transient. Have you checked you connections to the 5 A load resistor? Maybe you have a loose connection. Hope this helps,
