bqSTUDIO does not detect BQ27GDK000EVM (GDK)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, EV2400

Hi,

When bqSTUDIO is run it asks for supported targets: Gauge, Charger, Integrated  Gauge+Charger.  Then it shows a list of supported targets. Non of the devices are compatible with the application.

  • Hi Hamid, welcome to the forums!

Are you trying to use the onboard bq27421 on the GDK, or are you using an external fuel gauge EVM? The GDK has two jumpers, JP9 and JP10, that switch the I2C connections between the onboard bq27421 and the external I2C port.

If you select a device from the list (for checking if the GDK is present, it doesn't really matter which one, as long as you acknowledge the "the detected device is not compatible with this application" message), what error message do you receive? If you get a "Not able to find a free communications adapter" message, then the EV2400 in the GDK is not being detected by your PC. On the other hand, if you get a "No acknowledge from device" message, then the GDK is connected properly to the PC but it's not detecting a fuel gauge.

  • Hey guys,

I'm having the same issue with my demo board when, I'm trying to use the onboard bq27421. I have J9 pins 1&2 shorted, J10 pins 1&2 shorted, R103 is removed and a jumper resistor in place at R93. bQstudio starts but it doesn't auto-detect my BQ27GDK000EVM board, I have to select one from the following:

Whichever one I choose I am given this option:

then whichever selection I make, be it  0421_1_08_00-bq27421G1A or 0421_1_09_00-bq27421G1A, I get this error message:

(The detected device is not compatible with this application! Some actions could cause the device to lose communication permanently and enter an unrecoverable state. Proceed at your own risk. Select OK to continue, Cancel to close the application)

From here bQstudio does start but there is no connection and I am not able to detect the board or do anything useful with the software. My status light is green and I even tried the on-board reset, resetting via the software, and uninstalling then re-installing the software but no luck.

Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to get around this issue?
