Synchronous converters as bidirectional converter?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5122

I am trying to find a bidirectional converter but I just can't find it. For what I read synchronous buck (or boost) converters are inherently bidirectional converters. Is that so? If so, should I just use a synchronous converter (such as LM5122 an others) ?

Details about my application:

I want to use a bidirectional converter to charge and discharge a battery.  The High voltage side (battery side) is 16V and the low voltage side should be 12V. When current is flowing  to the battery the maximum current is be 1.5A; When current is flowing from the battery the maximum current is 4A.

Thanks in advance for any help!
