LM5069 Spark

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5069

Dear Sir

When I inserted the adapter into my system ,Sometimes the power jack will have "spark"

Could LM5069 solved this issue ?? I want to use LM5069 to avoid this issue ,but I don't know the reason why power jack have "spark" when I insert the adapter

Thanks

  • Hi,

Sometimes power adapters can spark when plugged in due to inrush current. If the application is low power, a simple solution may be to add a series resistor (if you have a large power resistor, you can put this in series to check if it is indeed a spark due to inrush current).

But yes, the LM5069 is one IC which can limit inrush current and would be a solution. The LM5069 also provides active current limiting if current rises above a programmable threshold, has power limiting to protect the external MOSFET, has UV/OV so the power can shutoff if input voltage is too high or low, and has a power good signal (PG) which goes high once the output voltage turns on.

Depending on your application, you may be able to tie the power good PG signal to enable signals of downstream IC's, thus they will only turn on once the voltage (and capacitors) are fully charged.

    Thanks!
