Using charger to supply power system load ( if I_load>ChargingCurrent() )

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z60

Please clarify this question on the BQ40Z60 - concerning the "Advanced Charge Algorithm" part of sluua04.pdf. How I can supply power system load ( when I_system > ChargingCurrent() ) from charger (AC power adapter), not from cells? The above document (sluua04.pdf, page 55) describes, that "The charger can supply power to the system while simultaneously charging the battery, automatically reducing the charging current when the system load increases and the total current (battery charge current and system load) is greater than what is set as the charge current" It's mean, that for big system currents, controller switch full system load to battery pack, and will not use charger?

Thanks,

  • The load balancing will work just like any other battery pack / charger configuration. The current will be supplied by the charger first and additional current requirements will be supplied from the cells. If the load current is lower than the charging current, then excess current will be used to charge the cells.
