bq2060_E207 won't unseal: Attempts to unlock are pending location of an EEPROM clip.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2060A, BQ2060

The app note SLUU091.pdf ststes that the following items will be found in the EV2200-60 evaluation kit:

The EV2200–60 contains the following items:

1 EV2200 Interface Board

1 Serial PC cable

1 Serial EEPROM clip

4 Software disks entitled

EV2200-60 Software

When I search the TI WEB page, I see no further mention of the EV2200-60, and I see no EEPROM clip in my space., even though we have bought countless EV2200's.

Questions:

1 - Why would a bq2060A refuse to honor the classical unseal code.

2 - Where can I find the "EEPROM Clip", so I can try to unlock the pack through THAT method.

3 - Finally (this one is difficult), is it possible that I have a bunch of counterfeit IC's in my possesion? I have a photo of 2 circuit boards side-by-side. To whom may I send it to get some feedback on this possibility?

Thanks,

Michael A. Banak

  • Sorry, The Title for the post should cite the bq2060A, and not the bq2060_E207.

  • Michael,

TI no longer supplies the EEPROM clip, which was simply an 8-pin chip clip that fit an 8-pin TSSOP, since the EVM for the bq2060A doesn't use an 8-pin TSSOP EEPROM any longer.  The EEPROM connections are brought out on a Molex connector for easy access.  The TI evaluation software can be configured to write directly to the EEPROM if the EEPROM Vss, Vcc, SDA, and SCL are connected to the Vss, E2 Vcc, SDA, and SCL connections on the EV2200.  This would allow you to clear the SEAL bit in the EEPROM by sending the UNLOCK command from the options menu.  Then a power reset would force the gauge to reload from the EEPROM and become unsealed.

Please send any potential counterfeit parts to Texas Instruments for Failure Analysis and mention that they are suspect counterfeit.

    Thanks,

    Bill J

  • Thank you, Mr. Jackson, for that comprehensive reply, both here and through correspondence. I am sorry I failed to acknowledge this closue to the issue in this open forum.
