Can any external components in TPS63700 be removed?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS63700

There are too many external components In the typical circuit of TPS63700. Can some components be removed? Such as C3, R4 and the RC filter connected to VIN pin. By the way, I have never seen any other DC/DC chip requiring a RC filter in its VIN pin.

  • Hi,
VIN is the supply voltage input for control logic. IN is the supply voltage for the power switch. (See page 4 in the DS)

C3 and R4 are recommended components for best performance. (DS page 15)
The device will work without these two components.
You could check the performance on the TI EVM without these components and see if it fulfills your requirements.

  • Thanks, and it seems that the control logic is quite sensitive to noise and requires a RC filter. But the noise can be reduced to some degree through proper layout, so will the device work without the filter?
  • Yes, in general you're right. The device will work without the filter with a clean supply.
The RC filter in the DS is recommended to achieve a proper working circuit.
In order to assure that the device will operate as intended in your specific application environment,
you are responsible for the overall design, validation and testing of your applications.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Michael
