100Hz Ripple

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100-G1

Our 48V battery pack is supplying a mains inverter.  The pulsed nature of the current draw creates a 100Hz ripple on the DC output.  We are using a BQ34Z100-G1 Gas Gauge to monitor SoC and Energy usage.  We have seen massive measuring errors using similar IC's caused by 100Hz ripple

Is the BQ34Z100-G1 prone to such issues?  Does the new G1 version eliminate this issue?

Kind Regards

Tony

  • We had another customer use the device in a similar application and encountered Ra table corruption. The current should probably be filtered to reduce the risk of gauging errors. There are also a couple of parameters that we can adjust to limit how much the Ra table can change.
  • Thanks Thomas,

Could you point me toward any further information.  We have already designed this is in and need to make the best of it as we have limited time available to change things.

Which are the parameters we can change to minimise the effect on the Ra? Also, are there any changes we could make to the sense input filters to improve the 100Hz ripple?

    Kind Regards

    Tony

  • Tony,

You can change these parameters to reduce the chance that an Ra table corruption will occur with your load.

    • Ra Filter: Increase from 500 to 800 to reduce the weighing on the new resistance measurement.
    • Max Scale Back Grid: Change from 4 to 1 to prevent updating previous grid points.
    • Ra Max Delta: It should be set to 15% of the Ra_4 grid point value.
