Correct, there is nothing special about the orientation of the parts. The ALERT signal is a high impedance signal with no special noise immunity. so having that signal a short run and possibly with guard traces may be desired. That was not done on the evaluation board/TIDA00255. Generally you will want to orient the parts to avoid signals crossing for efficient routing and board space, and keep the high current paths away from the low current/lower voltage signal area as shown in the figure, but your circuit layout may need to conform to your mechanical requirements.
