TPS62175 output protection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62175

Is it safe to connect an external voltage source to the output (SW pin) of TPS62175 when there is no input voltage applied on VIN pin? Or do we need a protection diode connected from output to VIN?

  • There should be several posts already existing on this type of question, but generally it is ok to apply a voltage to Vout with no Vin. Generally, this is done on Vout, not on SW. I would not recommend applying a voltage at SW. Is there any reason to do this?

The voltage on Vout will be seen on Vin through the body diode of the high side FET. So, all circuits connected to Vin will see some voltage.
  • Ah, I forgot about the existance of the body diode of the FET :-)
Voltage will be applied to the output, not to the SW directly.
It's all clear now, no additional diode will be required in our design.
    Than You :-)
