BQ24192I safety timer

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24192I

Dear,

I have two questions about safety timer behavior:

1. why does the latest specification mentions that recommended to disable safety timer first by clearing REG05[3] bit before safety timer configuration is changed in page21?

2. What dose BQ24192I' safety timer do after it reached the over temperature threshold? And what will it do when the threshold has been clear?

  • Hi,

    1. On page 21, the d/s says "The safety timer feature can be disabled via I2C (REG05[3])." " disable safety timer first by clearing REG05[3] bit before safety timer configuration is changed" could not be found on page 21 of the latest d/s.

2.When REG07[6] is enabled, during input voltage/current regulation or thermal regulation, the safety timer counts at half clock rate. When thermal regulation is cleared, i.e. the device operates normally, the safety timer will counts normally. e.g. Assuming the safety timer is set at 5 hours, i.e. REG05[2:1]=[00]. If the device runs under 2x extended safety timer for 2 hours (i.e normally 1 hour), then thermal regulation is cleared, the safety timer goes back to normal clock rate for another 4 hours and expires. So the safety timer expires in 2+4=6 hours.

    Thanks.
