BQ40Z50-R1 CUVC, CUV problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50-R1, BQ40Z50

Welcome,
I am testing of new Bq40z50-R1 in my project and I do not know how to set CUVC and CUV when the cell discharge @ -40^C

If I attach the load at -40 Celsius, the voltage across the cell temporarily drops to a level CUV. How to make undervoltage cell protection conditional upon temperature in the Bq40z50-R1 ? The cells that we use have the opportunity to discharge at -50 degrees Celsius.

In the positive temperatures, the voltage across the cell does not drop when I attach the load.

Voltage drop across the cell occurs in low temperatures and increases in if you are connecting a larger load.

When I set CUV at 2.5V and 240s everything works fine for low temperatures - Cell warms up during discharge and voltage rises above the CUV, but for  positive temperatures CUV must be set to higher.

How exactly works protection CUVC in the BQ40Z50?

  • For CUVC you can have a look at the Ternichal Reference Manual of the device! it works with the calculated resistance of the device. If you do not use a chemical fuse, you could use the permanent failure protection, because this sets the XDSG bit. But regard that you the fuse pin will be set if fuse enabled.
