Hello:
My customer is currently using an ST Micro "Transition Mode PFC Controller" part # L6562A and we are finding that some of the finished product has a high THD that is causing us to reject the finished product. When we change this part, it solves the high THD issue. When I called ST Micro, they told me it was a known design issue and that there is no plan to fix the problem. Therefore I need to find a replacement part.
In my search I came across your part # UCC28051D and it looks like an excellent substitution for the ST Micro part. Am I correct in this assumption? I compared pin outs and specs for both parts and it seems to me your part is a direct sub. In fact, the Simplified Application Diagram on page 1 of the datasheet matches almost exactly the curent schematic for the ST Micro part. I am attaching the current schematic for the assembly I am building. It is used to drive an 18 LED panel used by the US Navy. I will be ordering 37,500 pcs a year at the current run rate.
I need to make a decision soon as I am scheduled to begin building 12,000 more assemblies with whatever substitute I can find. Any help would be appreciated.MPS1117B_SCH.pdf
