BQ24266 Integrated Power Path MOSFET

Dear Sir,

According to the datasheet page 18 of QB24266, it supports Power path from SYS to BAT.

if I remove the power supply from IN then does the VBAT pass through Q3 to VSYS intermediately?

in BQ24266EVM schematic, we can see Q1 gate connected to BGATE,  I doubt that it already has Q3 MOS built-in between the SYS and BAT, Why does it put external PMOS Q1 in the schematic?  Do we really need Q1 PMOS for discharge? Thanks.

  • There is an internal battery FET between SYS and BAT.  The external FET is optional if you want to reduce the resistance between SYS and BAT when the IC is in HiZ mode (i.e. no power applied or IUSBx pins configured for HiZ mode = battery is powering SYS from battery only).  The external FET does not turn on during supplement mode (i.e. SYS demands more current than can be supplied from IN).
