BQ34Z950 with EV2300

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z950, BQSTUDIO, BQEVSW

Hi,

i´m evaluating the fuel gauge BQ34Z950 with the interface board EV2300. I want to programm the BQ34Z950 but i can´t build up a communication over the SMBus. I tried to use the Battery Management Studio software to configurate the BQ34Z950, but the chip is missing in the device list.

Am i using the right software or do i need other software? Will it work with my hardware or do i need additional hardware?

Thanks for help.

Greetings

Paul

  • Paul,
bqStudio does not support the bq34z950. The device is supported be the bqEVSW program is it is currently not on the web. Please provide an email address and I will send information to download it from the server.

  • Hallo Tom,

thank you for the software. The installation was successful. Teh software detects the EV2300. I´m trying to communicate with the bq34z950 using the SMBus. But both lines (SMBC and SMBD) are constant low. The EV2300 SMB GND line is connected to battery ground and SMBD and SMBC are connected to the corresponding gauge pins (resistor network according to bq34z950 datasheet SLUSBF0A – APRIL 2013 – REVISED MAY 2013).

Can you give me a hint why the communication lines are constant low?

    Greetings

    Paul

  • The EV2300 provides pull-up resistors on the SMB signals. I would disconnect the cable at the EVM and check the signal levels coming out of the EV2300. They should be high. If they are, then the bq34z950 may be defective and pulling them low.
  • Hallo Tom,

can you please resend me a link to the bq Evaluation software for bq34z950 gas gauge?
