Will the TPS7A4700 regulate at 1 ma

I am designing using the TPS7A4700 to create a 3.3 bias for a small FPGA. Input voltage is 5v but the current draw looks like only 1 ma. Will this circuit regulate? Per data sheet is says the V(DO) is directly proportional to the output current. So Vdo of 1.7 / 1ma = 1700 ohm Rds. Will the FET be on.

  • Hi Joe,

The max dropout of this device is 450mV. This occurs at the full load of 1A. At 1.7V of headroom, you will be well outside of the dropout region.

Dropout is linear with regards to current. As a result, you can set up a ratio to calculate your expected dropout at 1mA.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
