Is it possible to LM5175 will give 12V, 10A Output ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5175, LM5175EVM-HP

Hello,

I am currently working of project which is required 12V, 10A DC Output from the input voltage range of 8-25V... So i have refereed data-sheet of LM5175 which shows that i can get max. 6A and 12V output... It's not met my requirement ..

But when i have check with TI's Webench with passing these above parameter it will give solution with same but it shows output current 10A... It is ok for me..

My question is : Is it possible to get 10A using this design which is given by Webench ?

I have attached PDF given by Webench...webench_design_TI_12V_10A_8V_to_25V.pdf

  • LM5175 is a controller, so the output current capability is greatly dependent on the switching FETs used.  The datasheet design is just a typical example, not necessarily the maximum possible output.  It looks to me like the webench design is valid for 10A output.

  • John,

We are looking at the LM5175 (-Q1?) to provide a steady 12V output from a declining (voltage) bank of Super Caps (S/C) . The S/C will typically be sat @ 11.8V DC, and when the power source is removed the DC will decline (we are looking to run 11.8 down to 5V). The question I have is will the LM5175 (controller) be able to manage / handle 300W (25A) output on the 12V ? I appreciate this may be limited by FET selection etc - but assuming we can use any FET, can we drive 300W+?

    Thank you

    David
  • LM5175 - thanks John.

We will shortly pass this project to our design team.

Is there a TI service facility that we can call on, when looking at such designs?
Ie a direct tech support service?

    Your response is greatly appreciated

  • Generally, large company assigned accounts have direct Field Application Engineer support. They are the big and if you were one of them you would already be acquainted with your local rep, I'm sure. We also have Design Services, that support large business opportunities. Can you tell me about your business case? You can contact me directly at j(dash)tucker(at)ti(dot)com if you don't want to share that on a public forum.
  • Hi,

Please refer to LM5175EVM-HP (High power EVM) (www.ti.com/.../lm5175evm-hp) for a design that can do 12V/10A.
