bq27421 GPOUT

Hy all

I'm using BQ27421 in one of our devices. The GPOUT pin is unused, but in the datasheet it is recommended to put a 10kOhm Pullup on it. My system should consume as less current as possible (actually I'm around 60uA). With the recommended pullup the current jumps to over 300uA. Is it possible to use a much higher pullup 200 or 500kOhms? Could'nt find some infos about the maximum recommended value.

As I understand the datasheet, GPOUT pin may be an input in HIBERNATE mode. In my System i do not need this mode. Is it possible to let the pullup away?

Hi Raphael,

The Gpout pin is open drain and you can't keep it floating. It is recommended to connect it to the gpout of your MCU for the ability to toggle the pin in the event the device goes into shutdown mode.

We have a design where the gpout pin was pulled up using 1M and that worked fine so I believe using the 200 k as a pull up value to reduce current consumption shouldn't hurt.
