BQ76PL536A ECC_ERR (Uncorrectable bit error)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76PL536A

I'm working with a board containing 3 BQ76PL536A ICs, and recently the part tripped a few errors in the device status and alert registers. The one of most concern to me is the ECC_ERR bit in the ALERT_STATUS register. It's asserted on one of the BQ76 chips in my board, and seems to be a fatal hardware error

Question: Can the BQ76 recover from an ECC_ERR alert? Or does it signify a hardware problem that requires replacement?

The datasheet is not totally clear on whether or not it can be recovered from. It just states: "The device may return erroneous measurement data, and/or fail to detect COV, CUV, or OT faults in this state". I am seeing lower cell voltages on the ones monitored by the part with the ECC_ERR asserted, while the others continue to function just fine.

From the datasheet for reference:
DEVICE_STATUS REGISTER (0x00)
[3] (ECC_COR): This bit indicates a one-bit error has been detected and corrected in the EPROM. 0 = No errors are detected in the EPROM 1 = A one-bit (single bit) error has been detected and corrected by on-chip logic.
ALERT_STATUS REGISTER (0x20)
[6] (PARITY): This bit is used to validate the contents of the protected Group3 registers. 0 = Group3 protected register(s) contents are valid. 1 = Group3 protected register(s) contents are invalid. Group3 registers should be refreshed from OTP or directly written from the host.
[5] (ECC_ERR): This bit is used to validate the OTP register blocks. 0 = No double-bit errors (a corrected one-bit error may/may not exist) 1 = An uncorrectable error has been detected in the OTP-EPROM register bank. OTP-EPROM register(s) are not valid.
