Hi Team,

Our customer would like to know about behavior of TPS63060 when Vin was shorted by Vout.

According to our customer, it is an abnormal condition.

Could you please let us know if you have any information?

Regards,

Kanemaru

  • Assuming the VIN is a strong source with high power capability and VIN alwys remains at 6V, the device sees 6V at the output and trys to boost up VOUT to the target value (8V) - which is not possible. It will do so until it reaches the current limit and remain there. THis means it will run in current limit operation.

  • Hi Florian-san,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

And, I have one more question.

If Vin > Vout, does this device do the same behavior?

    Regards,

    Kanemaru

  • Yes, it will.
In the case as shown in the picture, the device has a tendency to buck mode and will operate in negative current limit as it trys to discharge the output.
  • Hi Florian-san,

    I have additional question.

What is the negative current limit?

So, I can’t find it in datasheet.

And, I believe that TPS63060 don’t have the output discharge function.

    Is my understanding correct?

If no, could you please let us know the detail behavior of the following operation?

    > operate in negative current limit as it trys to discharge the output.

  • In your application as drawn above, the device operates in power safe mode = enabled. Therefore the device won't discharge the output. It will remain idle and just do nothing.
My explanaiton was for the case when power safe mode = disbaled. Please do not consider my answer above for your circuit. This is not applicable here. Sorry for the confusion.
  • Hi Florian-san,

Thank you always for your kind support!

I understood and will report this information to our customer.
