BQ40Z60 - System Present feature

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z60

Hi,

when using the system present feature  can  the parts Q1, R1, R9, Q6, R17, J2, R36 be removed? Why is Pin 14 used for syspres feature on the evaluation board? In the BQ40Z60 Datasheet PIN15 GPIO1 is marked and used as SYS PRES Pin.

  • You can remove those components, if you are using the SYSPRES feature. SYSPRES is on pin 14 and the datasheet needs to be updated.
  • I'm confused. Which pin of the BQ40Z60 serves to provide SYSPRES?

Here, you say its pin 14. The data sheet (Rev C. July 2015) shows pin 15. The Eval board connects SYSPRES to pin 14. Since the eval board works (actually, not quite, but that's another issue) then I can only assume it is pin 14. But my design used pin 15 per the data sheet.

A proto of my design doesn't work (with batteries in place, only the CHG FET is turned on), which I figure has something to do with this.

Given the package, and the fact that I left Pin 15 unconnected, it's going to be tough getting that pulled low.

If the data sheet isn't correct, why is it still showing an invalid pin?
  • Hi,

thanks for the info, now I use pin 14 as SYSPRES and it is working. My question is if it is possible to use both SYSPRES and PRECHARGE features in the same design. If pin 14 is the SYSPRES instead of pin 15, I assumed that PRECHARGE becomes pin 15 instead of pin 14, but I can't change the state of pin 15 (it is always H) by pressing PCHG_FET_TOGGLE button. Settings / Configuration / DA register is 0x13 and IO Config register is 0x40, so PCHGBTP is 0, meaning pin 14 (sic!) is Pre-charge control output regarding the datasheet (SLUUA04C bq40z60 Programmable Battery Pack Manager Technical Reference Manual Rev C.)

    Thanks!

    Norbert

  • You will need to select either SYSPRES or precharge. The gauge cannot be configured to support both.
