bq27421 does not enter sleep mode

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hy all

I have to equal Hardware, one with bq27421 (lets say Nr.1) an one without (Nr. 2). Current consumption of Nr. 1 is about 30uA and of Nr. 2 about 130uA. The difference seems so be the current of bq27421 in normal opperating mode with 93uA.

In my firmware, the bq27421 is configured with default settings (OpConfig = 0x25F8). So the SLEEP Bit is set. The sleepcurrent is also let to the default 10mA. Why is the gasgauge not entering sleep mode? What can I do wrong?

Thanks for Help

  • Hi Raphael,

Pls refer to the technical reference manual of the device for the conditions on entering sleep mode and make sure you are meeting each.

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx

Thanks for the reply. Well, I read and reread the technical reference manual and all other literature about bq27421. But I couldn't find some more informations about entering conditions for SLEEP Mode.

Only conditions are listed in capter 2.4.5 of the manual. I'm quite shure, this conditions are met in my application. Aren't there other possibilities, the gauge doesn't enter sleep? Levels on I2C Pins or GPOUT as example?

    Thank you for help

  • Hi Raphael,
When you hook up your gauge to bqstudio do you see the sleep bit set in control status register and do you see a "zzzz" image on the IC display on the dashboard of bqstudio. The dashboard is located on the left hand side of the bqstudio window. Pls send a screen shot of your bqstudio .

Since you have two ICs of the which you say one is functioning as expected and the other isn't, the debug process should be easier.

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx

I'm sorry for the long delay, but I had a priority change in my projects.

Well, finaly I found my mistake. On my hardeware there is a voltage-divider for the BIN Pin. Unfortunately, I placed a pullup unstead a pulldown. So the gasgauge could'nt detect the battery. After placing a pulldown, everything works well.

    Thank you for help

    Best regards,
