Hi,

I am looking for 24 to 12 Buck DC-DC, 3.5A max, passive cooling and no casing style (embedded housing), efficiency more than 90%.

Would TPS54332 be the right part for above application? Will this part too hot for above requirement?

If TPS54332 is OK, do you have any application note on 24Vin and 12Vout/3.5A?

What are your thermal requirements? Max Ta and Tj?

Hi John,
End customer did not fix any Max Ta and Tj yet, but they need passive cooling solution and end application is for automotive.
On the other hand, they are looking at similiar solution with temperature does not exceed 60 degree.

It is not possible to estimate the junction temperature without knowing the ambient temperature range. If it is automotive, Ta is likely at least 50C. That leaves 10C. possible temp rise. let me know if my assumptions are correct.

I did a quick check in webench. For 3.5A output, Tj is 70 C above ambient. You are probably looking at a controller with external FETs
