BQ34Z100 Design Procidure (Design Capacity, Design Energy settings and Golden Learning)

Hello,

I am confused about the settings in Design Capacity and Design Energy.

  • Our battery pack is consist of eight batteries connected in parallel (2600 mAh each with nominal voltage 3.7V) so what is the Design Capacity, Design Energy and initial Qmax?

My understanding is that

Design Capacity = 2600 * 8 = 20800 mAh

Design Energy = 20800 * 3.7 = 76960 mWh. Since max Design Energy is 32767, I need to use 3x scale instead, which is 25653 for Design Energy and 3 for Design Energy Scale

Qmax Cell 0 = 2600 * 8 = 20800

Number of series cell = 1

Voltage Divider = 5000

Am I right?

  • The datasheet of my battery states Nominal Capacity is 2600mAh (0.2C, 2.75V discharge) so which voltage is proper to calculate the Design Energy, 2.75V or 3.7V?
  • To do a Golden Learning, battery pack needs relax after a full charging and discharging. Should I strictly follow that time? What is the effect if longer or shorter time applied?

Thanks.

  • Your calculations are correct. You can set the Design Energy Scale to 10 and the gauge will report what energy parameters in cWh instead of mWh. That may be easier that try to keep up with multiplying the number by a factor. We normally use the Design Voltage for a battery and this is typically the average of the maximum and termination voltage. Most 4.2V cells have a 3.6V Design Voltage. You should allow the pack to rest until the OCVTAKEN flag is set.

  • Thanks for your reply. The Golden Learning is running now.
