Active Full-bridge rectifier AC/DC for lower loss than diode full-wave rectifier

Team,

Do we have any devices or reference designs on how to do AC/DC rectification with 4 FETs instead of Diodes for lower loss? Is it as simple as using 4 FETs and dual-half bridge gate drivers?

It seems like some other folks are asking about this on the forum as well.

Regards,

John

  • Hi John,

We took a look at this some time ago versus a liner tech part. The 4 fets and two high side drivers gets expensive, the drives need a control signal that follows the AC cycle so its the kind of thing that grows arms and legs quickly.

Is this for universal mains applications or lower voltage ac like 24Vrms ?

    Regards

  • Peter,

For this example it would be for 24vac but I imagine many others are interested in universal as well. We are on the external forum here but I feel a part that allows for external FETs could be considered as well. If you all think about going down that path please let the community know for additional feedback.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Regards

    John
