How to configure charge termination

I am using a bq30z554 with a 3P3S cell arrangement.  When I am building a brand new pack, the first charge is being terminated when RSOC reaches 100%, but I can see the charge current hasn't reached close to its taper current and the cells have not reached the charge voltage.  If I turn off the TCASETRSOC and FCSETRSOC bits in the "SBS Data Config" register, the pack terminates charge due to an overcharge condition.

Should I leave these configuration bits high and run more charge/discharge cycles?  I have run a couple cycles with 5 hour delays between, and the remaining capacity is still much lower than my design capacity.  I'm thinking this is because the pack is not fully charging.  Could this be correct?

  • If you want the the FC and TCA flags to set at valid charge termination, then you should clear the TCASETRSOC and FCSETRSOC bits and set the FCSETVCT and

TCASETVCT bits. You can set the CHGFET bit in the ChargingConfigration register and the CHG FET should turn off and inhibit charging.
