About how to enable HDQ mode of BQ27542-G1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27542-G1, BQSTUDIO, BQEVSW

Hello,

The bq27542-G1 device is shipped in I2C mode.
But customer would like to use HDQ mode.
Please tell me how to enable HDQ mode in the bq27542-g1.

Best regards,

Manabu Ito

  • The command sequence on page 7 of SLUA504 work for converting bq2754x and bq2774x from I2C to HDQ.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your quick reply.
    I understood your answer.

    But I can't find EVSW for BQ27542-G1.
Is there a EVSW for BQ27542-G1?

And if BQ27542-G1 enables HDQ mode,Can I return to I2C mode?

    Best regards,

    Manabu Ito

  • Hi dMax-san

Could you please tell me about the progress on this?

  • Hi Manabu-san,

There is no bqEVSW for the bq27542-G1. Instead, use the bqSTUDIO software as it is the main software used by new TI fuel gauges.

Sending the bq27542-G1 into HDQ mode is permanent, and you can never return to I2C mode afterwards (even trying to update the firmware will not send the gauge back into I2C mode).

  • Hi Jason-san

Thank you for the thorough explanation.
I will explain to our customer.
    Your below explanation,

1, There is no bqEVSW for the bq27542-G1.
2, Sending the bq27542-G1 into HDQ mode is permanent, and you can never return to I2C mode afterwards
(even trying to update the firmware will not send the gauge back into I2C mode).

Could you please tell me where that is mentioned in any document?

    Best regards,

    Manabu Ito

  • Hi Manabu-san,

I don't have any official TI documentation on either points, but I do know that basically all of the new fuel gauges only have support in bqSTUDIO. There is a forum thread that mentions how changing a gauge from I2C to HDQ mode cannot be undone.

    Regards,
