About inrush current of TPS25940L

Guru 19595 points

Please let me know about Inrush current of TPS25940L.

When incleased Cout capacitance on Vout line (ILIM:5A),  current was clipped near ILIM and changed Vout rise time.

※Please see below

 Yerrow:Vin / Blue:PGOOD / Red:Vout / Yerrow:Iin

①3.4A/1.5ms

②5.24A/1.5ms

③5.24A/3.2ms

④5.24A/4.4ms

Is inrush current nesessary to careful of current and rise time?

(Is inrush controller measure about it?)

Best regards,

Satoshi

  • Hi Satoshi,

Sorry the confusion, but questions about eFuse products now belong under the "Load Switches" forum. I will move this thread accordingly.

    Thanks!

  • Dear Alex-san

Thank you for reply and move to "correct" forum.
    Sorry, I mistaked.

  • Hello Satoshi-San,

     Please send me your schematic.

what is your VIN range and  the current limit you set and what is minimum and maximum output capacitance you tried.

Actually, when you increase the  output capacitance  your start up inrush current also increases,  and when Istart-up  is larger than the set ILIM,  the device limits the current to ILIM and   this leads to the larger charge time.

Please  refer to the following section of the TPS25940x for the further detail.

10.2.1.2.5.1 Case1: Start-up Without Load: Only Output Capacitance C(OUT) Draws Current During Start-up

10.2.1.2.5.2 Case 2: Start-up With Load: Output Capacitance C(OUT) and Load Draws Current During Start-up

  • Hello Dinesh-san

    Thank you for reply.

    I attached schematic below.

    ※Additional information

The latest schematic is connect shottky diode on input and output.

(Attached schematic is nothing because of it's a little old-data)

    Best regards,

  • Satoshi-san,

Is your problem resolved? You can play with the calculator here: TPS2594x Design Calculation Tool to optimize the component values for the circuit.
