bq27742-g1 external thermistor connection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27742-G1

Hi, I am designing a product that uses a single Li-Ion cell pack. The pack has already three connections (Cell -, T and Cell +). The Thermistor second terminal is connected to Cell-. The pack is sealed and is a replacement for the Samsung IA-BP125A Battery.

I want to use the bq27742-g1 gas gauge to measure and monitor the battery pack functioning.

I already connected the bq27742-g1 EVM to the battery and start testing. But have two questions:

1- How can I connect the battery thermistor to the bq27742-g1?

2- Is there any problem of using the bq27742-g1 connected to a battery pack that may have other protection circuit inside?

Thanks for your help and support.

  • Hi Mario,

You will need a separate thermistor for this device because one end ot the the thermistor has to be connected to the ts pin and the other end has to be biased to the output of the reg2.5V ldo.

i do not envisage a problem using the device with another protection circuit. The other protection will be more like a secondary protection circuit. This is an overkill though. If you want to go ahead with this, you should configure the gauges protection circuitry to trigger first before any external circuitry to avoid complications in the operation of both..

    thanks
