UCC28180 / acoustic noise

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28180, UCC28810

Hi,

Could you tell me about UCC28180 in light load condition?
It is awkward for the customer that coil acoustic noise occurs then.
Is there the measures method as the IC?

Best Regards,
Yusuke/Japan Disty

  • Hi Tsukui,

The UCC28810 goes from a CCM boost controller to a discontinuous "burst" mode controller at light load depending on the switching frequency and inductor size of the converter. The burst mode is a low frequency hysteretic control. This is what is causing the audible noise. You need to either increase the size of the output inductor, increase the switching frequency, or add a pre-load to prevent the controller from going into burst mode. There is no simple fix that I know of.
