bq2060 VFC calibration

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2060

Hello,

I'm looking for some help with the bq2060 battery fuel gauge. My company was contracted to resurrect a short production run of a Li-Ion battery previously designed with this older technology for fuel gauging. We are installing higher capacity cells and reprogramming the fuel gauge to recognize the additional capacity. The battery specifications are 14.8V and 15Ah.

My problem is with the VFC calibration and the sealing process of the fuel gauge. I’ve been testing some of the initial builds of the battery, and noticed that the pack seals itself automatically after performing the VFC offset calibration. Some of the documentation (SLV151) states that there should be an option whether or not to seal the pack during this process, but it doesn’t appear to be the case, unless I’m  missing something. Also, once the calibration completes, the bits CEDV and VCOR are set in the Pack Configuration parameter. Is this supposed to happen after performing the calibration? I would like to avoid using those features. I am using the TI evaluation software to do all the programming and testing.

For my final question, what is the process of unsealing this fuel gauge? Except for a mention of some kind of “programming clip”, there doesn’t seem to be a clearly defined procedure to do that in any of the bq2060 documentation. I greatly appreciate any help.

 Thank you,

 Maciek Lewandowski
