LM5113 Exposed Pad Inter Connection

Hi.

I am using LM5113SDE in a power converter.  In its datasheet, it is said the exposed pad is recommended to connect to the ground plane.  I wonder if inside the chip it is also connect to the ground (VSS).  Will it cause an issue if I connect it to VDD instead?

Thanks

  • Hi Boxue,

It is recommended to connect the pad to GND as the GND connection will have much more copper area in the layout and this will help manage the temperature of the device due to the power dissipation when driving the power switches.

Connecting the power pad to Vcc may also increase the switching noise on Vcc and may have adverse effects on other IC's connected to Vcc.

    Regards

    Peter
