Powering a 3.3V System from a Supercup

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR61428, TLV61220, TPS61220, TPS61088, PMP9772

For a backup a 3.3V System from a single Supercap with nominal 2.5V  I want to use a TPS61236 for 2 Seconds with 2A Current and after 2 seconds the system needs 600mA for 5 t0 10 seconds. To use most of the stored Energy of the Supercap I want to add a LMR61428 to get a lower Vin. How can I combine this chips without adding a Diode, which drops down the performance.

  • Ewald,

Please use TLV61220 or TPS61220 to supply the TPS61236's VIN pin instead of the LMR61428 . the input voltage of these two part can be down to 0.7V, which is very fit for the supercap application.  You can refer to the TI reference design PMP9772,you just need to replace the TPS61088 with TPS61236, then set the output voltage of TLV61220(TPS61220) to around 4V.
