    Yes, the TPS92661 can be used with fewer than 12 LEDs. For the unused channels, we recommend just shorting the pins together. It does not matter which switches are used, but the firmware is slightly easier if you keep the LEDs grouped. There is a design example in the datasheet of a 6 LED application that can be used as a guide.

    Hi Passerby,

    The matrix manager has an internal switch between LEDn and LEDn-1.  So when the switch is open, the current passes through the LED, when the switch is closed the current gets stunted around the LED.

    So in the example above, current through the top LED would only flow if all of the remaining switches are closed.  Meaning the switch between LED11-10,10-9,9-8, etc.

    So I would recommend following the original recommendation and externally short the unused LED's.
