Shorting AC and USB Port of TPS65217C

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65217

Hi,

We have seen that IAC max = 2.5A and IUSB max = 1.8A under internal register settings.

Now If I short AC and USB Port and Provide supply through external AC adpator - 5V, can I get a current of around = 2.5A + 1.8A = 4.3A from SYS1,2 Outputs.

I do not want Battery.

I basically want to follow Beagle Bone Black Design with AC and USB port shorted to get higher current capacity.

Thanks and Regards.

  • ARM,

Unfortunately, shorting these two pins together will not double the input current limit for these pins, due to the design of the power path of TPS65217. If the pins were shorted all supply power would be routed through the AC pin, because it is designed to be prioritized as the source of power if available. The USB choice in the power path will not be picked and power will not flow though that internal path( as it is prioritized second). Therefore, you are limited to only one pins input current limit.
