applications support bq24650

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24610, BQ24650, BQ24610EVM

I am looking to speak with an applications engineer, specifically as related to battery charging IC’s. The application requires that I am able to charge LiPo (lithium polymer) cells that are arranged in series. Specifically 6s1p @ <3500mAh each cell.  The required voltage output of the assembled battery pack is 24VDC~ . I am not constrained to a particular charge supply voltage, as I will source a power supply adapter once I am able to narrow my search for charge IC’s that can facilitate my needs. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hi Robert,

Look into the bq24610. The bq24650 is for solar applications.

    Thanks,
    Steven
  • Thanks for the follow-up. Okay so I took your suggestion and proceeded in purchasing the bq24610EVM (HPA422 REV. B) . The documentation however implies that it is for multi-cell applications, the question I have pertains to the connection of the cells to the EVM board. I will be using LiPo's @ 3500 mAh in a 6s1p configuration. The schematic & documentation for the EVM provides no information as to connection of cell balancing / cells in series, single, or parallel configuration . Is balancing not required, and am I to series the batteries and connect the series output of the batteries (22.2VDC~) to VBAT and GND? Some guidance needed.
