TPS65510 Discrete Component Values

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65510

Hello,

I am looking to use the TPS65510 in a battery backup design with an application similar to that shown in Figure 1 of its datasheet, however I cannot find any given values for the discrete components used along with the IC. I'm assuming R4 and R5 are standard pull-up resistors, and R1 and R2 can be calculated from the formula given on page 11, but I'm unsure of what values to use for the inductor and capacitors in the rest of the circuit. I would appreciate any help in how to select what these values should be.

Thanks,

Jeff Wuerthner

  • Well you have picked a device without much support collateral. Typically those front of the datasheet schematics are "marketing" examples that usually do not include actual component values. Later in the datasheet there should have been actual circuit examples with component values as well as a detailed design procedure detailing how to choose the external components. That is not the case here. Also there exists no EVM or other tools. I researched the archives for this product and could find no trace of any user schematics that must have been generated during the IC evaluation prior to release. This device was developed by a group that no longer exists. I do know personally some of the original team. I will try to contact them, but it may be futile.

What is your level of expertise? An experienced power supply designer could probably derive component values based on the information in the datasheet using general rule of thumb designs for boost controller and reasonable values for some of the input and output capacitances.
