TPS65218 - supply current for the IN_BIAS rail and IN_BU rail when the device is ON?

Hello TI,

The datasheet states the total input current when the device is OFF and also in STANDBY.  What I’d like to know is, what is the supply current for the IN_BIAS rail and  IN_BU rail when the device is ON?  What supply rail(s) are needed to power up the digital control portion of the IC?  I’m looking at providing a low-current “always on” 3.3V regulator for just those portions of the IC, and providing a higher-current 5V supply for the LDOs and DC/DC converters. Can I do this? Do they have to be the same voltage?

Thanks,

Dan

  • Hi Dan,

Thanks for the post! Sorry for the delay. IN_BIAS, IN_BU, and IN_DCDCx must be tied to the same voltage. IN_BIAS powers the digital control portion of the IC. What is your intention of keeping IN_BIAS on? Since you are looking to use an "always on" 3.3V regulator you could power DCDC5/6 through the CC pin when your main power is lost. DCDC5/6 can be programmed to be “always-on” when FSEAL is set to 1.
As for the supply current for IN_BIAS and IN_BU, I will need to get back to you on this.

Let me know if you should have any questions. Thanks again for the post!
