Hi,

I'm working on a Smart Battery which has TI's bq20z95 IC. For extracting and understanding the various data flash parameters I need the bqEasy tool, but I couldn't find it in the bq20z95 product page. I have pasted a screenshot from the product page below which shows the available software.

Previously I had used bqEasy tool for bq20z45 which was available directly in the product page. I believe there are different versions of the bqEasy tool for different gauge ICs.

Any help regarding this is appreciated.

Hi Swami,

Thanks for the quick response. I have downloaded the software and will try to validate it today.

In the meantime can you help me with something else regarding smart batteries & gauging? As the bq20z95 gauging IC is based on SMBus protocol for communication with the host, it is not allowed to NACK it's own address (which is 0x16). But I have observed that the bq20z95 gauge NACKs multiple address cycles from the host in a minute. I have given a delay of 100us in my source code b/w each read or write request from the host to the gauge. My SMBus clk frequency is 50KHz. Would that suffice for proper communication b/w host and battery? Or is there any valid scenario when the gauge can NACK it's address?

Hi Sravan Mohan,
It should not NACK, but the recommended time between each read is 22mSec, otherwise you could watchdog the gauge. The recommended time between writes is 66mSec. Let me check with the F/W team on the specifics of when the part will NACK.

Hi,
Here are the two conditions in which the gauge will NACK:
1. If the part is sealed not all the commands are available. If a command that is not valid in the sealed mode of the gauge is sent, then there will be a NACK.
2. If multiple commands are sent without providing adequate delay between them (22mSec for read, 66mSec for write), there will be a NACK.

Hi Swamy,

The bqEasy tool works fine for bq20z95. The battery that I have is not sealed and is in full access mode. But I will try the recommended delay b/w read and write requests.
