BQ27621 alarm

Hi

I have a problem with getting a low voltage alarm from the BQ27621. The datasheets states that setting bit BATLOWEN high should do so. I can see it's enables because the SOC interrupts disappears.  But no matter how I set the voltage, I do not get any signal on that pin. Are there any other bits, I need to set? I also se no difference when trying to set sleep current subclass 82 offset 24. I have tried to set the sleepcurrent to 0 and 1ma, by writing to both 24 dec and 24 hex, as I am not sure what it should be. I am using a workaround, by pretending that the battery has more capacity, and then dividing by that factor to get the current. This gives better results. The problem is that we are consuming very little current(100uA to 2mA), and that seems to make the BQ27621 go into sleep mode for long periodes. So the result is a SOC that for long periodes stay the same, and then suddently jumps > 5%. Does anyone have a programming example for setting the alarm and for setting sleepcurrent? Or maybe the 27421 is better for very little current consumption? The 27621 works fine with higher currents. Even constant current gives smooth and pretty accurate curves.

  • Hello Claus,

    A few questions:

    1. What is the capacity of your battery?
    2. Setting sleep current is a gauging parameter that will determine when our gas gauge is going to enter sleep mode. Are you trying to disable sleep? The TRM will state it in decimal, you will need to convert it to hexadecimal.
    3. The DVC gas gauge will estimate the current so the sleep mode may be sometimes delayed based on the effective current estimation. If you can capture a log file, we can better understand the behavior.
    4. BATLOWEN is based on SOC, the gas gauge does not do SOC predictions based on voltage levels alone. Are you trying to set an interrupt based on SOC or voltage only?
    5. What types of currents is your typical system drawing? The bq27421 or the bq27621 should work well with both high and low currents.

    Thanks,
