BQ24055 TS pin floating

Hello,

We are using the BQ24055, and left the TS pin floating.  The battery is charging fine so far.  Re-reading the datasheet, we are a little confused on if it is indeed ok to leave it floating?  The datasheet states, "The battery charger is in TTDM when the TS pin goes high from removing the thermistor (removing battery pack/floating the TS pin) or by pulling the TS pin up to the TTDM threshold."

We want to make sure the battery will terminate the charge when it reaches capacity, and that we won't cause any damage to the part or the battery by removing that 10k resistor on the TS pin.

Thank you

  • Floating TS Pin or pulling High puts part in TTDM and disable TS monitoring. TTDM is Termination and Timer Disable Mode. See datasheet for detailed description on this mode. The charging profile does not change (still has precharge, fast-charge constant current and constant voltage modes). This implies the battery is still charged safely and the current is allowed to taper to zero.
