TPS65930 - RTC reset upon power cycle

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65930

Hi

I am working on custom board having OMAP 3530 and TPS65930 as the PMIC. We are using RTC of TPS65930 and it is powered by coin cell battery. It’s observed that the RTC resets its date and time to 2000-01-01 00:00:00 occasionally upon board power cycle and the voltage at the coin cell battery looks good and it is around 3.1V.

Please find the log of one such instance

/***************************************************************************/

twl4030_rtc twl4030_rtc: setting the system clock to 2010-04-28 17:20:47 (1272475247)

After power cycle

twl4030_rtc twl4030_rtc: setting the system clock to 2000-01-01 00:00:00 (946684800)

/***************************************************************************/

Please let us know if this is known issue with TPS65930 any workaround available.

  • Hi Srinath,

    It really depends on the way you power cycle your board. If the main battery is low and backup voltage is at a valid level then the backup domain is powered by backup voltage. Only when the 8sec PERON event is used and main battery is removed then the back data is lost.

    The detection of main battery is done on the VBAT pin. Is your input source to the TPS65930 from a single source?

    Regards,

    Gandhar.
