Questions on Impedance track IC BQ34Z100-g1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100-G1, BQ27742-G1, BQ2970

I am planning to use BQ34Z100-g1 IC for battery monitoring system of Lead Acid Batteries of 12V, 250 A. capacity. I got following queries while reading through the datasheet. your support is highly appreciated if following queries are answered

Resistance measurement:

  1. Minimum waiting time for resistance measurement is 100s, is it possible to reduce it by programming?
  2. Resistance is updated at each 11.1% of DOD, is it means battery need to discharge at least 11.1%? is it possible to reduce it by programming?
  3. Resistance measurement is only done during Discharge? Or is it possible to measure at desired time?
  4. Resistance measurement is done multiple times, i.e for each 11.1% DOD and each 3.3% after 77.7%, all values are updated? Or is single value is updated after discharge is terminated?
  5. Resistance is updated in Data flash, is it possible to access into additional micro controller?

Series Resistance for Current sensing:

  1. We want use one chip for each battery in our UPS, we want to connect only one resistor at the battery near to negative rail, is it possible to input measured voltage (across series resistor) to other chips?
  2. If individual sensors used for each chip, in our case the DC voltage will be in the range of 480V, so SRP and SRN may subjected to 480V, but the potential difference is within safe level (125mV), is the chip is capable to withstand such high voltage?

Scheduled or Intentional measurement:

  1. Is it possible to measure impedance at scheduled time without applying load on the battery?
  • You might be able to use the selected gauge with a bq29700 family protector (www.ti.com/product/BQ2970 ) although the low side switching can be interesting with communication. As an alternative, please see the bq27742-G1 for a gauge with protection. The people on the gas gauge forum will be able to assist with gauging questions.
