LM5113 - Switching Frequency / Power Dissipation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5113

Attempting to switch at 30MHz - high side driver being pulled low. Is this a power dissipation issue? Any heat sinking recommendations?

Thank you.

  • You're right about the power dissipation issue, operating at 30 MHz generates significant amount of loss and heat that limits the safe operating area and can damage the device.  Because of this the LM5113 is limited to switching frequencies typically around 5 MHz.

Our recommendations for cooling are to insure there is adequate copper area and active air blowing over the device.  Also please keep in mind the datasheet specifies the minimum on time pulse to 10 ns.  There is a known bug that causes excessive long on pulses when an input pulse well below 10 ns is applied, as discussed in a previous post, which could have damaged the device.
