LM25118 Current Limit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM25118

I'm using the LM25118 in an application that only utilizes buck mode.  Section 8.3.5 of the datasheet describes a current limit mode dependent on the external sense resistor.  Is there a recommended way to disable this over current protection if we want to?  I'm thinking we could simply short out the CS and CSG pins.

  • Hi Mike,

You are correct, the current limit is set by the external sense resistor. However you're not going to want to short out the resistor as the LM25118 is a current mode controller is and uses the sense current information for control. Without it there will be unstable operation.

That being said, set the current limit high (decrease the value of the sense resistor) to keep the inductor current from getting close to limiting. If doing this, you will need to change the compensation values, (Cramp, Ccomp1, Ccomp2, Rcomp). The easy way to do this is using the quick start calculator, this will help do some quick calculations

Is there some special reason you don't want to use current limit?

    Thanks,

    Garrett
