The keys are to match your transmitter and receiver coil diameters for hte most effective coupling.

I would recommend looking through these articles and reading through the TI deisgns and Eval Module documentation.

Once you know what you are designing for (transmitter or receiver) and what sort of power levels and features you are looking for you can narrow down which chip will work best. Once you have selected your chip many of our devices in their datasheets discuss how to design and configure the device to be Qi compliant.
