LM3646 - not having to set Flash mode for every external Flash strobe

Is there any way to use the Flash mode (external stroble) without having to set the Flash LED mode bits (m1, m0) each time you want to strobe.  On page 31 of the data sheet there's a timing diagram that is labeled Level-Sensitive Strobe without Timeout.  This implies that it may be possible to drive the led even if the timout has expired.  I'd like to ideally set the mode bits only once and then be able to drive the LEDs in flash mode by just controlling the external strobe signal.

Thanks,

Irv

  • It is not possible to set the mode bits once and perform repeated flash events using the Strobe pin. In both edge and level sensitive strobe modes, the mode bits are cleared at the termination of the flash event, whether the flash event was terminated because of timeout or the strobe pin going low (in the case of level sensitive strobe).
