Need .dffs for bq27531 file

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQEVSW, BQ27531-G1, BQSTUDIO, EV2400

Using bq27531-G1 with fw 1.02, and bqEVSW.

1) Can I get a version of bqStudio that will recognize this device? So far I have had no success.

2) How do I generate bqfs, dffs files for this device?

3) Which software app do I use [bqStudio, Flash Stream, Gauge studio or other] in order to generate bqfs, dffs files for this chip?

4) We are using a standard Lithium Ion battery.  Do we need to change the chemistry ID for the bq27531?

Regards,

DB

  • Hello. I have taken over this project from Dynse.

    Our fundamental problem is that:
    * we are using the BQ27531
    * our board has already been built
    * we will can not use the EV2400 to program the fuel gauge on this board in production

We would like to program the fuel gauge with a bq.fs or df.fs file, as we do with the BQ27520. We could not create bq.fs or df.fs files with the bqEVSW software from www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware. If there is alternative software that can create bq.fs and df.fs files, we would like to know what software we should be using. If this is not possible, we need to look at alternative solutions.

  • Hi Lyle: We apologize for any delays. We will be happy to help you. Your local FAE informed me about the issue also. First of all to clarify things before we do extensive troubleshooting and ask to look at your files and code. Let us take care of the following:

For older bq Evaluation software(bqEVSW) or any other existing software that works with EV2300 to recognize and communicate with the EV2300 and EV2400, it is best to install the EV2400 support components installer. Link is below.

    1234.EV2400_Support_Components_20110524.zip

The latest bqEVSW will work with  EV2400 but may refer to it as EV2300 in messages.

  • Hello Lyle,

Do you get an error message from bqStudio when you start the software?

Do you have the latest version of bqStudio?
  • Hi Kang,

I have bqStudio version 1.3.45. There is a newer version, 1.3.47, that says "for testing purposes only". I will download and try that version as well.

When starting bqStudio, I get the taget selection wizard. It says "Auto Detected Device: 0531_1_02". If I search under gauge, there is not entry for the BQ27531.

Previously, we used bqEVSW 0.9.92 when working with the BQ27531, not bqStudio. It works with the fuel gauge, but we could not get df.fs or bq.fs files from bqEVSW.

  • Hi Naser,

Thank you for your reply. I believe the support components have been installed, and we have had success communicating with fuel gauges using the EV2300 and EV2400.

Just in case, I have re-installed the support components, and have requested the bqEVSW you linked. I will install it and try it when the request is approved.

  • Hi Kang,

With bqStudio version 1.3.47, I got the same results as with 1.3.45. It still auto-detects 0531_1_02, and there is still no entry for BQ27531 in the Target Selection Wizard.

  •  HI Lyle: Kang should tell us more as he owns this device from the application side.

As an added effort, I  discussed this and confirmed with our software manager. He said  bqStudio in theory supports the bq27531 but that support is not yet there in the release. The firmware team is working on it now. Once it is validated, we will include in the installer and then publish on ti.com

    Regards,

    Naser

  • Hi Lyle: We have  some good news.  Until we have BQStudio support for bq27531, there is the option of using the flash stream tool to create .fs files. or better yet,  bqEVSW should be able to create dfi files which is the other alternative to flashstream. Knag can add or confirm.

    Regards,

    Naser

  • Hi Naser,

I would like to try the flash stream tool. I could not find a specific TI page for it, but I found 2541.FlashStream028_bundle (2).zip on E2E at e2e.ti.com/.../1617729. Is that the correct program to try?

I'm looking forward to the new version of bqStudio. Is there any timeline for its release?

I will look into dfi files as well.

    Lyle

  • Hi Lyle: You are welcome, and we are glad to help. Yes. I would stay with bqEVSW for now. Flashstream can create the dffs file but not the dfi as I was told. The dffs file can be programmed on the 531.

The bqEVSW supports the basic functions but may not support all functions that bqStudio provides and added features once it is released for bq27531. N exact time, but the frame ware team is working diligently on it and its validation as it is priority project for us.

Yes, it is same but I n case it is older version, I will send you the  latest Flash steam utility I have in zip file via email.

    Regards,

    Naser

  • Hi Naser,
I was able to convert our fuel gauge's .senc file to df.fs and bq.fs files with FlashStream version 0.28.
I think this is all we need to program our fuel gauges in production.
Thank you for all your help.
    Lyle
  • Great. Thanks Lyle for the update. Glad we could help.Regards,Naser
